Muria Kudus University (UMK) students successfully won gold medals in the World Science, Environment And Engineering Competition (WSEEC). The activity was held at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Pancasila University, South Jakarta, May 13-16, 2024.
The four students are Isna Fatkhur Rohmah from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education (PBSI) study program, Sabrina Ratih Kusumaningrum from the Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) study program. Then, Lisa Auliya Insani from the Guidance and Counseling (BK) study program, and Khilda Evita Aisya from the English Language Education (PBI) study program.
The head of the group, Isna Fatkhur Rohmah, said that there were seven categories in the event. Among others, Mathematics, Energy and Engineering, Environment, Physics, Life Science, Social Science, and Technology.
Isna and her team, who presented a scientific work entitled “POP-UP BOOK FISIKAKU BUDAYAKU: Enhancing Literacy and Understanding of Indonesian Local Culture through the Lens of Physics” won gold medals in the Physics category.
“The preparation started from looking for ideas on what we would bring until finally we chose to make a pop-up book that integrates culture in this case gamelan with physics,” Isna explained.
“After that we researched what physics is in gamelan. Then go to book design, here we design the book ourselves. Print prototypes and initial trials on junior and senior high school students,” he continued.
Furthermore, Isna said she was happy with the results she achieved. However, she realizes that the book she and her team created still needs to be improved, both in terms of material and features.
“Hopefully this book will not stop at just one gamelan material. We want to develop this book further such as AR features and want to connect physics with other cultures such as traditional dance, traditional games or even connect culture with sciences other than physics,” he concluded.
For information, WSEEC itself is an activity that is a forum for learning and coaching for the younger generation, especially in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and mathematics). This event is a forum for research and scientific work of the younger generation from elementary school to college level to play a role in the competition in the industrial world 4.0.
